Best Shoes to Wear in NYC

Okay, bear with me... this is not going to be your usual walking shoe list detailing comfortable sneakers or cushioned hiking boots... we're talkin STYLISH shoes that just so happen to give your feet a much-needed break.

Spring and summer in New York is SO lively and bright, I swear there are days that I leave the house at 8am and won’t come back until long after the sun has set. All that walking calls for a comfortable pair of shoes but I personally gotta pass on the classic “dad tourist in some dusty old sneaks” look... so I thought I would shoot out some recommendations for shoes I can stomp around in without wrecking my style, feet, or wallet. 

WEDGES
I know a few of you will think I’m crazy when I say it but- WEDGES!!!! The sturdy and supportive soles keep you upright and feeling good while also giving you some extra inches (not that I need any). In this case, I would definitely say that material matters— try to avoid any rubber or plastic because they can rub and create blisters. I swear I immediately had to order these wedges from DSW because I NEEDED the soft leather straps that literally cradle my feet like newborn babies.

BLOCK HEELS
An alternative look with similar vibes is the block heel option. I really can’t get enough of these block sandals since they’re so easy to dress up or down. I can be in shorts and a tee or a fancy dinner dress and either way I am good to go with this shoe. I definitely recommend grabbing some with a heel strap to keep those puppies secure.

SNEAKER
A stylish sneaker is always fun to make a sundress more playful or add some edge to a flirty look. Super easy to slip on, great for longer periods of walking, and affordable. I swear I have some sneakers I could actually sleep in they’re so comfortable, like this lavender pair of sneakers.

COMBAT BOOTS
Some days, I love to replace my sneakers with a pair of combat boots for a sassier look and I can’t say enough good things about these Doc Martens! The best part is, buying through DSW can usually knock a few bucks off the price, which makes me feel better about the times I end up puddle-jumping in them after a spring rain.

SLIDES
I avoid walking around in flip flops since I’m getting chills just thinking about those between the toe blisters! Nix those and opt for some summertime slides. These shoes feel like nothing but can bring a great pop or color or print to your outfit. You can simply step into them as you walk out the door and BAM you’re good.
